Ashoka describes itself as a “global association of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs.” Seems like the perfect opportunity for the best and the brightest to transcend occupation and apartheid in Israel/Palestine.
Yet the way they have arranged their regional offices is a solid contribution to the normalization of the Israeli Occupation. Note the little orange spot that is the West Bank, while “Israel proper” is light blue:
Shouldn’t Israel be included in this map? What about that worn-out (and laughable) soundbite that declares Israel as “the only democracy in the Middle East”?
Ah, yes: Israel was recently added to Ashoka Europe:
In this case, Israel-as-part-of-Europe is just a sanitized way of saying “not Arab.”
Further evidence that Ashoka is making a racial distinction: MENA (Middle East North Africa) has recently been re-branded Ashoka Arab World.
